Job Purpose

Sophos is looking for Quality Engineer/Software Developer in Test to join our Network Security Group in Cranberry Township, PA to help develop, automate and execute features tests on Sophos Products. The engineer must be able to work efficiently and effectively to identify defects and ensure all products meet Sophos Quality Standards.  Sophos NSG develops industry leading Firewall, SG UTM, Secure Wi-Fi, and Secure Web Gateway products.


Main Duties

  • Work closely with developers to support new feature design and testing new product features.
  • Represent QE in scrums and contribute to testing and ensure products meet Sophos Quality standards.
  • Develop, execute and automate test cases to test various features.
  • Analyze test results, debug test failures and file defects.
  • Continually assess and evaluate existing test cases/suites with the objective of identifying and eliminating potential gaps in test coverage.
  • Develop tools and infrastructure to improve the quality and efficiency of testing and test methodologies.
  • Perform investigation and analysis to determine root cause of customer found defects.
  • Reproducing and troubleshooting the bug with developer.


Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer/Electrical Engineering or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience working in QA or a similar testing environment highly desirable.
  • Good understanding of networking concepts(Routing, Switching, etc.) and protocols(IP, TCP, UDP, HTTP, DNS, DHCP, SSL/TLS etc.)
  • Troubleshooting networking issues using Tcpdump, Wireshark.
  • Good understanding of network security applications, including (but not limited to) firewalls, IPS, IDS (e.g. Snort), routing, switching, IPsec and SSL.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or shell scripting.
  • Excellent operational knowledge of Linux operating systems and open-source network tools for testing.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Salt, Puppet)
  • Knowledge of revision control systems, GitHub or Mercurial desired.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Highly motivated and driven to work in a fast-paced and interrupt-driven work environment.
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving, interpersonal communication and ability to learn new things quickly.
  • Should be extremely detail-oriented with respect to documentation and communication.
