Role: 

We are looking for a Software Engineer to fit in our Agile team, whose main function will be developing and maintaining network security products running on a Linux platform. 

 

Main Duties: 

 

  • Design and write code in line with specified project timescales, quality and functional requirements. 

  • Conduct Unit tests on own code and participate in System and Integration testing of other code. 

  • Participate in peer reviews of code and designs as requested, making suggestions to increase quality. 

  • Participate in implementing test automation working together with QA engineers. 

  • Provide estimates of time required for allocated tasks and clear updates on progress. 

  • Schedule own time to deliver against priorities assigned, in line with agreed project timescales. 

  • Escalate any problems that need to be addressed in a timely manner, with suggested solutions or workarounds. 

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with team members to develop production code. 

  • Exchange information with other engineers in the team to identify issues and recommend solutions. 

  • Suggest improvements to departmental standards and procedures. 

 

Essential skills: 

 

  • University/college degree in computer science 

  • At least 2 years of experience in using C language on Linux/Unix 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Linux/Unix platforms 

  • Knowledge of HTTP/HTTPS protocols 

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills 

  • Experience with unit testing systems 

  • Team player 

  • Fluent English 

 

Desirable skills: 

 

  • Experience with Apache web server 

  • Experience with (or willingness to learn) Perl or Python 

  • Knowledge of SSL/TLS protocols and encryption systems  

  • Security software development experience 

  • Experience of working in Agile (Scrum, Kanban) environment
