Job Purpose

We are looking for skilled Software Engineer to join our NSG engineering team. Primary responsibility will be to contribute to Sophos Firewall products in to platform team and FIPS projects.


Main Duties

  • Design and develop new user space/kernel software/modules and/or modification of in to existing modules.
  • Participate in to various certification process like FIPS/Common criteria.
  • Follow self disciplined SDLC
    • Produce high quality code and adhere to secure coding standards.
    • Produce unit tests with product codes.
    • Produce automation scripts with product codes.
    • Burn the code hard using static and dynamic code analyzers. 
    • Keep the product/engineering documentation updated.
    • Participate in to code reviews and estimation.
  • Participate in to board bring-ups (kernel, drivers, user space tools/libraries).
  • Patch, upgrade, evaluate open source/third party components.


Skills & Experience


  • Proficient C programmer on Linux like operating systems.
  • Exhibit strong problem-solving skills and have passion for troubleshooting.
  • Have good understanding of networks and TCP/IP stack.
  • Own and meet the goals with minimal supervision.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer, Mathematics, Electronics or related
  • Solid understanding of C programming on Linux like operating systems.
  • Knowledge of operating systems (Linux like OSes).
  • Working with open source modules, i.e. patching, compilation and building.
  • Knowledge of OpenSSL (or other crypto libraries) and SSL/TLS APIs.
  • Knowledge of Protocols/Standards – TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, HTTP, SSH, X509, PKI.


  • Knowledge of systemd, boot loaders (uboot/LILO/GRUB etc.).
  • Exposure to ‘FIPS 142-2’/’Common criteria’ certification process.
  • Working knowledge of any of the scripting language (Perl, Python, Shell).
  • Exposure to secure coding  (https://owasp.org/www-project-top-ten/).
  • Exposure to Linux kernel development i.e. any of - VFS, file system drivers, network, USB, PCI, character drivers.  
  • Understanding of routing protocols (BGP, RIP etc) , authentication protocols (LDAP/AD, Radius, Kerberos etc).
