Job Purpose

Reporting to the Director of FP&A, the key objective of the position is to assist in the provision of strategic financial support to Sophos’ IT Department.  The individual will assist in the preparation of all forward looking financial projections including the Long-Term Plan, Annual Operating Plan and Forecasts as well as then having a detailed understanding of actual results and variances to previously prepared projections. This role involves partnering on a day-to-day basis with the IT Senior Management Team, which is led by the Chief Information Officer, as well as the Finance departments in the UK and around the world.


Main Duties

Specific responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Business Partnering
    • Providing consistent, high quality financial business partnering support to IT
  • Budgeting and Forecasting
    • Managing the Operating and Capital Expenditure planning and forecasting processes
    • Working closely with the IT Senior Management Team to deliver Forecasts as well as the Annual Plan
    • Providing a narrative on changes to the Plan as it evolves, suggesting actions and working closely with managers to drive the required outcome
    • Taking responsibility for the input of projections into the Group’s respective systems
    • Working closely with the Financial Reporting teams to understand and communicate the Group’s actual financial results and variances to Plan and forecast
    • Reviewing all significant expenditures
    • Tracking and Forecasting headcount position and related costs
    • Continuous assessment of forecasting accuracy
    • Responsibility for relationship management in and between key operational areas
    • Communicating Financial results clearly to the functions supported and highlight any relevant risks or opportunities
    • Assisting the wider finance department in forecasting and scenario modelling as required
    • Assisting in long-term planning and modelling as required
  • Reporting
    • Preparing the relevant monthly management accounts
    • Assisting in preparation of high quality review materials for discussion at meetings with the VP Finance / Senior Management Team / CFO /CEO
    • Driving the provision and communication of self-service reporting by the business
    • Assisting in ad hoc reporting activities as required
  • Projects
    • Building knowledge of the systems that make up the reporting and forecasting environment and making recommendations for changes and improvements
    • Leading work streams contributing to successful project deliveries  
    • Working closely with internal management and external stakeholders on data collection, verification and modelling


Skills and Experience

For this position we are seeking an individual with excellent communication, inter-personal, and influencing skills. You will have experience of successful business partnering with senior management teams in the software/IT industry. You will have achieved your Professional Accountancy Qualification such as ACA, ACCA, or CIMA, with post qualified experience working in FP&A/Commercial Finance.

  • Are highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to “see the big picture” and present complex data in a clear and organized manner
  • Ability to handle conflicting priorities and tight deadlines

  • Experience of business partnering with an IT department is essential
  • Experience of working for a publicly-listed or private-equity owned company
