Role Summary

Threat hunter? Programmer? Data-driven?

 

We have a fantastic opportunity here at SophosLabs for a Senior Threat Researcher to join our global team of behaviour-based protection engineers, to hunt, to research, and to add real-time classification for indicators of compromise across our Windows product portfolio. Our highly skilled team of security experts deliver behaviour-based classification for Windows threats, that run in real time across Sophos customer base. 

 

You will be passionate about the fundamental characteristics of malware and hacking attacks, and take satisfcation in finding, predicting and classifying new ways attackers will modify their attacks in attempt to evade detection. You will be responsible for writing rules that are able to signal early to late-breaking IOCs that highlight customers under attack. 

 

As a TTP Detection researcher, your problem domain will be:

  • Understanding malware kill chain and hands-on-keyboard attacks 
  • Accurate and efficient classification of malicious and suspicious behaviours 
  • Mapping IOCs to MITRE Att&ck matrix

 

What You Will Do

  • Author classification rules to identify malicious and suspicious use of TTPs
  • Analyze real world kill chains to discover new TTPs and gaps in coverage
  • Measure and tune TTP coverage through data mining, customer telemotry and internal sandbox feeds
  • Maintain playbooks on threat actor TTPs

 

What You Will Bring

The successful candidate has strong knowledge of the Windows operating system, is familiar with building and measuring efficient computational data flows and combining these skills to combat the continuous evolution of the threat landscape. You enjoy thinking creatively; combining your deep technical knowledge, your tenacity for innovation, and your can-do attitude to solve complex and challenging problems on a daily basis. 

 

In addition, you will have:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Software (Computer Security preferred)
  • Programming experience - Python/Lua
  • Strong knowledge of Windows operating system, internals and forensiz tools 
  • Excellent graps of MITRE Att&ck tactics, techniques and simulation 
  • Big data experience, Elastic Search, Kibana, Redshift
