Financial Planning & Analysis Manager

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Director of FP&A, the key objective of the position is to assist in the provision of strategic financial support to Sophos’ IT Department.  The individual will assist in the preparation of all forward looking financial projections including the Long-Term Plan, Annual Operating Budget and Forecasts as well as then having a detailed understanding of actual results and variances to previously prepared projections.


This role involves partnering on a day-to-day basis with the IT Senior Management Team, which is led by the Chief Information Officer, as well as the Finance departments in the UK and around the world.


Main Duties

  • Specific responsibilities will include:
    • Business Partnering
      • Provide consistent, high quality financial business partnering support to IT
    • Budgeting and Forecasting
      • Manage the Operating and Capital Expenditure planning and forecasting processes
      • Work closely with the IT Senior Management Team to deliver Forecasts as well as the Annual Budget
      • Provide a narrative on changes to the Budget as it evolves and suggest actions and work with managers to drive the required outcome
      • Take responsibility for the input of projections into the Group’s respective systems
      • Work closely with the Financial Reporting teams to understand and communicate the Group’s actual financial results and variances to Budget and forecast
      • Review all significant expenditures for business sanity
      • Track and Forecast headcount position and related costs
      • Continuous assessment of forecasting accuracy
      • Responsible for relationship management in and between key operational areas
      • Communicate Financial results clearly to the functions supported and highlight any relevant risks or opportunities
      • Assist wider finance department in forecasting and scenario modelling as required
      • Assist in long-term planning and modelling as required
    • Reporting
      • Prepare the relevant monthly management accounts
      • Assistance in preparation of high-quality review materials for discussion at meetings with the VP Finance / Senior Management Team / CFO /CEO
      • Drive the provision and communication of self-service reporting by the business
      • Assist in ad hoc reporting activities as required
    • Projects
      • Build knowledge of the systems that make up the reporting and forecasting environment and make recommendations for changes and improvements
      • Lead work streams contributing to successful project deliveries  
      • Work closely with internal management and external stakeholders on data collection, verification and modelling


Skills and Experience


    • Excellent communication, inter-personal, and influencing skills
    • Experience of successful business partnering with senior management teams
    • Experience of business partnering with an IT department
    • Qualified CPA with a minimum of 3-5 years of FP&A/Commercial Finance experience
    • Experience of Planning and Forecasting
    • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to “see the big picture” and present complex data in a clear and organized manner
    • Ability to handle conflicting priorities and tight deadlines
    • Working hour flexibility will be required to support a Global function
  • Desirable
    • Experience of working from home
    • Experience of working in a software company
    • Experience of working for a publicly-listed or private-equity owned company
    • Experience of managing a successful team      
    • An IT literate person with good Excel and PowerPoint skills
