Role Summary

Reporting to the VP, Intellectual Property, the Product/Intellectual Property Paralegal will support the legal department in the areas of product development, product deployment and intellectual property.


What You Will Do

• Collaborate with the internal teams, as well as external counsel, on cross-functional projects related to the Product Legal, compliance and intellectual property matters.
• Support the Product Legal function as follows:
  o Directly support Sophos’s product organization on issues related to the new and existing products and features throughout the entire product lifestyle.
  o Oversee and drive the product release review process through management of the tickets, providing training on the process and tracking completed releases.
  o Build partnerships with internal clients and provide training to promote awareness and engagement on relevant legal issues, policies, tools and processes.
  o Review, file, process and track legal documents and technology license agreements affecting Sophos’s products and services.
  o Assist with the maintenance of the contract management tool with respect to contracts for product dependencies.
  o Assist with creating and maintaining legal and compliance templates, policies and knowledge sharing resources.
• Support intellectual property function on issues related to the patents and trademark portfolios
  o Assist with the maintenance of the internal IP management tool, IPfolio
  o Coordinate execution of patent and trademark documents by company officers and inventors
  o Track and process inventor patent awards in accordance with the internal patent program
  o Assist with the publication of a monthly internal patent blog for issued patents
  o Assist with e-Billing software, SimpleLegal, including monthly follow-up of unbilled estimates, invoices and purchase order balances.
• Support Product Legal and Intellectual Property attorneys with special projects


What You Will Bring

  • Proactive, highly organized, detail oriented and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to communicate at all levels 
  • Willingness to work and collaborate as part of the legal team in a cross functional capacity 
  • Flexibility and willingness to navigate areas of unfamiliarity 
  • General understanding of a broad range of corporate in-house legal matters, in particular product and intellectual property 
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and able to learn new software and systems as needed 
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a paralegal, administrator or equivalent experience at a law firm and/or in-house legal team
