Role Summary:

The Manager, US External Reporting and Technical Accounting will report to the Senior Director, US Financial Reporting and will assist in all aspects of external reporting for the Group’s global operations in the USA.  This includes all elements of the end to end process to ensure compliance with US GAAP and US public reporting requirements including, in time, periodic filings to the SEC.

 The US External Reporting and Technical Accounting Manager will pay a key role in the Company’s proposed SEC filings and earnings processes, as well as lead or assist in technical accounting projects.


What You Will Do:

  • Draft footnotes and disclosures in SEC filing documents, document technical accounting research results
  • Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to break down technical issues, identify applicable accounting guidance, propose solutions and introduce process improvements.
  • Assist in all aspects of SEC Reporting and earnings process including project management of reporting calendar, footnote support, draft preparation, disclosure and certifications processes, resolution of review comments from stakeholders and filing.
  • Interact with cross-functional teams within Sophos and treat the cross-functional partners as customers.
  • Consistently exercise appropriate judgment in analyzing disclosures, accounting issues and in selecting appropriate guidance.
  • Support and document the implementation and ongoing performance of US GAAP accounting policies, processes, and relevant controls
  • Assist as required in the preparation of the monthly management accounts for presentation to the SMT and separately the Board
  • Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual US GAAP close processes to strict close deadlines
  • Drive a continuous improvement approach to develop strategies to improve US GAAP accounting operations efficiencies, effectiveness, and scalability, including the development and execution of policy, process, and system changes


What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and active CPA license.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience, including Big 4 public accounting experience and SEC reporting experience with a publicly-traded company
  • Strong preference for someone with prior experience in a SEC reporting / technical accounting role at a technology (software) company.
  • Experience with ownership of end-to-end SEC reporting and earnings cycle, including disclosure and certification processes, project management of deliverables and preparation of financial statements and disclosures.
  • Strong technical accounting background, with experience in stock-based compensation (ASC 718), business combinations (ASC 805), revenue accounting, (ASC 606) and lease accounting (ASC 842).
  • Prior experience designing, implementing, documenting and performing Sarbanes-Oxley processes and controls.
  • Well-developed SEC reporting and technical accounting research skills.
  • Strong analytical, verbal and written communication and presentation skills, with meticulous and superior attention to detail.
  • Ability to independently research accounting issues and propose solutions.
  • Ability to effectively operate in a fast-paced environment, prioritize, multi-task, deliver high quality results within established timeframes and go the extra mile.
  • Technically savvy with proficiency in Excel and Word, experience with SAP BPC and XBRL tagging
  • Working within a software or technology company, ideally a global organisation
  • US based – central and east coast locations preferred
  • Experience with SAP and other systems (or similar) within finance stack (Snowflake, BPC) is very helpful
