Role Summary
We are searching for an experienced, pragmatic, and technically-minded attorney to join our legal team to serve as Privacy Counsel to the Company and to lead, manage, and strategically align the Privacy Team with Company priorities and developing regulatory requirements. As a key member of the Legal team, you will be responsible for leading the Privacy function and for strategically aligning global privacy requirements with Company strategy, key initiatives, and development projects. This role reports to the VP, Compliance & Assistant General Counsel.
What You Will Do
•    Implement Sophos’ global privacy regulatory requirements
•    Partner with Sales to anticipate and align local privacy requirements with product use in countries where Sophos products are sold
•    Develop Privacy strategy that aligns with Company objectives, Company priorities, and anticipates Company direction and needs from Privacy requirements
•    Determine, apply, and close on identified Privacy projects that implement best practices, leverages a universal platform for Privacy regulatory requirements, leverages Privacy by Design, and brings forward Privacy as a strategic advantage for the Company 
•    Lead and manage Sophos’ Privacy Team, including data subject requests, data access and deletion requests, data mapping and records of processing across all business teams, company-wide training, Privacy Incident plans, the Sophos Privacy Notice, and the Sophos Privacy Policy
•    Partner with and leverage the services provided by Sophos DPO, including data privacy regulatory developments, DPO registrations, and jurisdictional privacy regulatory requirements
•    Partner with security teams and cross-functional stakeholders to advise on privacy issues, support security incident investigations, manage privacy-specific incident matters, determine regulatory reporting, and advise customers and partners about privacy matters
•    Review, advise, and close on privacy requirements in Sophos products, working with product management and engineering teams to provide early privacy counselling on new products and product features
•    Work with Legal Commercial and Contract Teams to advise on privacy requirements, Data Processing Agreements, and special circumstances, including the updating, revising, and monitoring of advisory playbooks, templates, and standard contract clauses, including escalation support 
•    Serve as an available resource to all members of the legal team to address privacy issues as they impact or apply to their respective practice areas


What You Will Bring
•    Admitted to practice law in the country where your associated Sophos office is located
•    10+ years of relevant experience, including in-house experience with a high-tech company
•    Deep experience with privacy and data protection laws and managing a multinational organization’s compliance with such laws
•    Deep experience managing and leveraging the resources of an extended Privacy Team to develop the overall Privacy function across the Company, guide and make effective impact of the Privacy Team across the Company, and to lead and develop individual Privacy Team members to find and act on their best and highest potential
•    Proven ability to translate technical knowledge into pragmatic advice that appropriately balances legal risks with commercial requirements in Sophos products
•    Experience providing privacy counseling to product and engineering teams on privacy considerations for product development and new product/product feature launch
•    Experience drafting and negotiating privacy, security, and confidentiality terms in commercial agreements, including data processing agreements
•    Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to successfully counsel and interact with senior management
•    Self-starter with ability to execute tasks efficiently with sound business judgment and attention to detail
•    A proven ability to manage and prioritize a complex workload


Desirable, the following skill sets are a plus in this role:
•    CIPP certification is a plus
•    Technical or engineering background in software products is a plus
•    Experience in Office 365 and useful privacy apps
