Job Purpose:

Software Engineer, to collaborate as part of a team for the development of complex systems; including requirements analysis, and design, implementation and testing, demonstrating flexibility of role as required.


Main Duties

  • Participate as part of a team in design and implementation, leveraging modern design patterns
  • Ability to work effectively with UX, PM, DevOps, QE and other developers to design and implement meeting the spirit of requirements
  • Experience in modern front end frameworks, e.g. AngularJS, Bootstrap
  • Technically curious to stay up to date with advances in technology
  • Write code (feature and test) to deliver against project timescales, quality and requirements in various languages including Java, Python, Javascript, Typescript or other selected languages for Sophos Cloud products.
  • Conduct unit, system and integration testing and fixing errors, with guidance if required.
  • Work with best of breed Cloud technologies (NoSQL, high throughput event processing, cloud-scale data analytics, etc)
  • Design software components (functionality, defect fixes and automation) that form part of a larger solution, in line with team objectives
  • Define test scenarios and test cases to ensure quality of the teams deliverables


Skills & Experience

  • Relevant coursework in Computer Science
  • Exposure to JAVA, JavaScript, Python, HTML/CSS, JQuery/Ajax.
  • Experience/Knowledge with Agile Software Development methodologies
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills


  • Ability to design and write high quality code
  • Understand how products and technologies interface with each other and fit with the strategy and business needs
  • Evaluation of technical and functional specifications and their cohesion
  • Effective communication
  • Work well on a team
