Sophos is looking for a Frontend Software Engineer working on high reliability systems in the cloud.  

Our team is responsible for developing Sophos web applications and APIs. Our applications are developed in VueJS and Python, hosted in AWS. We must provide high availability, low response time and – of course – secure systems with a high focus on code quality and continuous improvement of our development process. 

You’ll feel at home within our Agile team with its open communication, commitment to quality where continuous improvement of your knowledge is not only an opportunity but a requirement as well. 

This role is located in Budapest, Hungary and requires some travel to our other offices. 

Main duties: 

  • Write or refactor high-quality code and tests, pairing with other engineers 

  • Agile planning with product stakeholders (clarify requirements, break down into sensible epics/stories, estimate user stories) 

  • Taking part with QA engineers in product testing (unit, end-to-end and automated functional tests, help in manual tests if needed) 

  • Communicating effectively, removing impediments to the team’s progress, asking for and offering help when needed 


Essential skills: 

  • Experience in frontend development 

  • Familiar with at least one of the Javascript frameworks 

  • Proven track record of designing & developing reliable, maintainable, high- quality code that’s well tested 

  • Ability to work with the relevant stakeholders to extract and understand product requirements 

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills  

  • Team player  

  • Fluent English 


Desirable skills: 

  • Experience with backend languages and frameworks 

  • Knowledge of cloud technologies (AWS, Azure) and deployment (CI/CD) 

  • Experience in identity management (single sign-on) 

  • Experience on Linux platform and Unix Shell scripting 

  • Security software development 

  • Experience in Agile software development 

  • Proficient in using development tools (source control, static analysis, profilers, coverage analysis etc.)
