As such Sophos Labs is looking for experienced Senior Software Engineers to contribute to the next chapter in its Anti-Spam systems.

The Sophos Labs team is at the heart of Sophos providing the core operations, research and automation Sophos products use to protect businesses from known and emerging malware- viruses, rootkits and spyware- and other computer threats like phishing, spam and scams. 

 

As a Systems Development Senior Software Engineer you will work closely with the Sophos Anti-Spam product and Sophos Artificial Intelligence teams to deliver Anti-Spam capabilities to our customers. Because your team’s systems are providing Anti-Spam protection to customers 7x24 it will also need to adhere to the rigorous software reliability and release standards of the Sophos Labs Sytems Development disciplines. 

 

As a member of the Sophos Labs Systems Development team, you will perform software development activities throughout the full development life cycle, including coding, documenting, debugging, testing and supervising the operation of systems to create the next generation of computer security products.

 

 

Main Duties:

 

  • Software Development – Innovate, design, develop and deliver features into the Sophos Labs automated systems area, focusing on Anti-Spam systems taking it to an industry-leading next-generation position.

  • Continuous Improvement – Identify key metrics, put measurement in place and drive team and technology to meet them. Do this using the Agile Software development framework of SCRUM.

  • Next-Gen - Enhance the Sophos Labs Anti-Spam - and other cyber-protection - systems by adding NextGen technologies such as Reputation and AI algorithms.

  • DevOps – Implement CI/CD, operational metrics and monitoring for Sophos Labs 7x24 systems and provide second line support of them.

 

 

You will be an experienced Software Engineer. You will have a proven track record of automated systems and/or SaaS. You are interested in Cyber Security.

We are looking for an individual who is excited to be part of a mission-critical team responsible primarily for email security. This team thrives to look for innovative ways to solve emerging threats related to emails. You will be working on more core production anti-spam systems. 

 

 

Roles and Responsibility:

 

  • Independently design, develop, integrate, test, release, and sustain complex systems 

  • Providing technical leadership and mentoring to junior developers

  • Analyse requirement specifications, carry out a feasibility analysis, PoCs  and estimating effort

  • Participating in code reviews, defining test coverage to validate all implementations

  • Communicate development status and escalate issues to management

  • Ability to understand and discuss technical concepts, schedule tradeoffs and opportunistic new ideas

  • Work within an Agile environment to develop, test and deliver software in small iterations

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

 

 

Skills:

 

  • Proficiency in programming preferably Perl or Python, development of algorithms using efficient data structures and profiling to come up with optimized code, debugging and troubleshooting under Linux environment

  • Solid experience with high concurrency applications, multithreading, server architectures

  • Experience with virtualization, cluster management and distributed systems

  • Experience with network programming including HTTP, SMTP and raw TCP/IP sockets

  • Knowledge of AWS cloud technologies

 

 

Desirable Skills:

 

  • SCRUM and the Agile framework

  • Experience in programming Perl

  • Experience in developing secure systems (secure coding, threat modelling, policy compliance)

  • Experience with CI/CD systems and components (Jenkins, Helmcharts, CFT)

  • Current with technology in virtualized clusters (Docker, K8s, Rancher, AWS EKS, Fargate)

  • Understanding of relevant Internet protocols, standards (SMTP, RFC822 HTTP, DNS, TLS).

  • Working knowledge of querying and manipulating datasets with experience of at least one industrial-strength database (MySQL, AWS Aurora)

  • Experience using BIG DATA systems like Elastic Search or AWS Redshift, DynamoDB
