Job Purpose

We are looking for an outstanding Software Development Engineer in Test to join our growing cloud development team and help us deliver high quality software for computer security. We follow an Agile methodology with frequent, iterative releases to our live AWS environment. 

The team develops cloud management for Sophos’ endpoint security products, all implemented in our Sophos Central platform.  We are primarily focused on the delivery of new features, with an exciting roadmap of customer visible projects ahead of us.

In this role you will have the opportunity to work with the latest cloud technologies, building test automation for the front-end UI, microservices, AWS infrastructure and datastore.


Main Duties

  • Work within an agile engineering team to ensure all features have automated regression tests
  • Define, create and debug automated test cases across the full software stack, using a variety of languages and frameworks
  • Enhance existing test frameworks to allow testing of new features
  • Be the test automation domain expert within the team, partnering with developers to share expertise
  • Contribute to project planning sessions and work closely with the development team to agree appropriate automation at each testing level
  • Monitor and report on the team’s test metrics, troubleshooting failing tests when required
  • Research and implement improvements to tools and processes, to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the team’s test automation and feature delivery


Skills & Experience


  • Degree in Computer Science or other numerate discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Test development using scripted or high-level programming languages (e.g. Python, Groovy, Java, JavaScript)
  • Exposure to at least one software test automation framework (e.g. Selenium, Cucumber, Protractor, Jasmine)
  • Experience of writing automation tests for RESTful APIs and front end UIs
  • Experience with agile development methodologies
  • Technical problem solving and strong debugging skills
  • Good communicator, ‘can do’ attitude and a team player
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly and apply them to the role



  • Configuration of CI/CD pipelines, using tools like Jenkins, Git and Sonar
  • Experience with using Docker to test microservices
  • Experience in testing cloud scale software solutions on the AWS platform.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases, ideally MongoDB, Dynamo or Elasticsearch
  • Experience with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL.
  • Analysis of test coverage against user requirements and scenarios
  • Linux and Windows operating system knowledge
