Job Purpose

We are looking for an experienced software engineer to join our growing cloud development team and help us deliver high quality software for computer security. We follow an Agile methodology with frequent, iterative releases to our live AWS environment. 

The team develops cloud management for Sophos’ endpoint security products, all implemented in our Sophos Central platform.  We are primarily focused on the delivery of new features, with an exciting roadmap of projects ahead of us. Recent highlights for the team have been releasing additional features for Sophos’ Intercept X Nextgen product, namely Live Response which enhances remote threat detection and remediation across endpoint estates.

In this role you will have the opportunity to work with the latest cloud technologies, working across the full software stack and contributing to infrastructure, data storage, microservices, front end UI and test automation.

 

Main Duties

  • Contribute to development across the full software stack by designing and implementing product components with test coverage and automation, to deliver against project timescales, quality and requirements
  • Be involved in project planning and drive for high-value and high-quality solutions which meet business needs
    • Work with the team to analyse and understand project requirements
    • Investigate, present and recommend technical implementation designs and technologies to use in products
    • Participate in the design of products in line with asset technical strategy, quality and functionality requirements
  • Mentor more junior members of the team through pair programming and code reviews
  • Contribute to daily stand-ups, kick-offs, collaborative estimation and retrospective meetings
  • Participate in security reviews of new developments to ensure that released products comply with Sophos’ security requirements and industry best practice, including analysing product security concerns and presenting security documentation
  • Actively contribute to code reviews to aid quality and correctness in the immediate and wider teams
  • Other duties and responsibilities as directed

 

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Experience in full stack software development using Java and JavaScript.
  • Confidence in designing, implementing and testing software systems and components
  • Effective communicator with different types of audience
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly and apply them to the role
  • Technical problem solving
  • BSc in Computing or other numerate discipline, or equivalent experience

 

Desirable:

  • Demonstrable expertise in building cloud scale software solutions on the AWS platform
  • Use of Typescript and Angular for building single page web applications
  • Familiarity with Spring/Spring Boot
  • Designing performance solutions with No-SQL databases, specifically mongoDB, DynamoDB and ElasticSearch.
