Role Summary

CIS is responsible for supporting our Product teams to deliver the infrastructure required to provide public-facing infrastructure and Cloud services to both internal and external customers.

As the Senior Manager, DevOps Tools and Automation, you will lead a highly technical and high performing team responsible for all Cloud Infrastructure for public facing and back-office Cloud Products and Services that provide Cybersecurity protection to millions of endpoints worldwide. 

You will lead our DevOps adoption within Cloud Infrastructure Services (CIS) and across Product BUs to design, implement and improve our cloud infrastructure.  You will guide teams of experienced engineers to build data & cost models & architecture that will deliver a scalable, resilience and affordable cloud platform. Working with the CIS team to deliver infrastructure & monitoring as code.  Scoping and delivering a common set of management plane services (identity management, secrets management, monitoring, patching, vulnerability scanning, Logging, asset management, image hardening), that can be adopted by IT and Product BUs. 

You will lead strategic technical initiatives, coordinating technical strategy, planning and delivery across the organization to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment with company objectives and priorities.

Your Responsibilities

 

Reporting to the Snr Dir, Cloud Infrastructure Services (CIS), your responsibilities include:

 

Strategic

  • Shape the vision of how DevOps capabilities are achieved and guides other technical staff in achieving that vision.
    • Work with CIS Snr Director and Product BU leads to build, communicate & adopt a common DevOps framework for all cloud projects
    • Follows the principles of Communication, Collaboration & Automation.
  • Implement cloud maturity framework to track quality of all cloud services, implementing as part of a project and continuing to deliver as part of quarterly improvements.
  • Identify industry best practices and drafts standards for design and implementation of continuous delivery and integration pipelines and automation workflows. Guide managers and teams in following best practices and standards.
  • Create and develop analytical methods and tools to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of systems and processes; including correlating those metrics to business value and ROI.

 

Tactical

  • Responsible for leading a cross functional team of Architects and Engineers to identify and implement the most optimal cloud-based solutions for the company.
  • Lead the Engineering & Operations teams in DevOps adoption and delivery; break down work objectives into tactical tasks.  Provide estimates of work effort required to complete tasks and time to completion.
  • Manage and improve cloud environments in accordance with company security guidelines.
  • Perform evaluations via POCs to find new solutions and optimize existing technology solutions that enable the technology delivery capabilities of the organization.
  • Identify, prioritize and execute automation opportunities with clearly measurable value to the business
  • Drive collaboration with Engineering teams, leaders and external partners to solve customer-facing production incidents and problems
  • Define, implement, and measure key metrics providing clear insights into trends and performance of Sophos products
  • Implement and improve the observability platform
  • Contribute to CIS strategy and planning processes, including:
    • Create estimates and work plans then deliver according to those plans in an agile manner
    • Drive technical thought leadership across CIS Operations teams
    • Enable and communicate trade-off decisions in conjunction with the planning process
  • Lead IT/CIS benchmarking and metrics efforts
    • Operational Frameworks
    • Benchmark cost, performance, and priorities of the IT/CIS functions
    • Implement and manage metrics and dashboards to assess and communicate performance

 

Experience and Qualifications

  • BSc in Information Systems or Computer Science
  • Prior experience leading DevOps teams and capabilities (preferably at a SaaS Enterprise $1B+ revenue company)
  • 12+ years of IT Operations leadership including project management
  • 8+ years of experience building and running public cloud services (preferably AWS)
  • Deep understanding and demonstratable experience with AWS products, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines. Kubernetes, Docker, Helm
  • Hands-on experience developing operational-based tools, managing public-cloud environments in a highly available, large scale, and global organization. We are looking for a technical leader who is results-driven, customer-centric, and takes ownership and accountability with a mindset that anything is possible.
  • Proven experience delivering and maintaining high-availability and disaster-tolerance global application and infrastructure 
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with peer Engineering Leaders and external partners to solve customer-facing production incidents and problems. The candidate will work closely with product engineering teams to collect and present appropriate metrics (i.e., SLA, SLI, and SLO) to implement the observability platform 
  • Created DevOps roadmaps and driven its implementation
  • Worked with Engineering teams to ensure service SLIs/SLOs/SLAs are defined, measured and met (or exceeded)
  • Demonstrated experience benchmarking and building metrics programs
  • Demonstrated influencing and negotiating skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be pragmatic and diplomatic
