Senior Dev Ops Engineer


Job Purpose

We are looking for an experienced DevOps engineer to join our growing Cloud Fasttrack team to help us deliver high quality cloud hosted solutions. You will use your experience to enhance the services offered by the Fasttrack team by monitoring and resolving issues with the department’s development environment. We follow an Agile methodology with frequent, iterative releases to our live AWS environment, and you will help coordinate this release process by building, testing and maintaining the development environment’s infrastructure, tools and documentation.

In this role you will have the opportunity to work with the latest cloud technologies, working across the full software stack and contributing to infrastructure, data storage, microservices and the front end UI.


Main Duties


  • Contribute to the deployment, monitoring and troubleshooting of a large scale distributed microservice based system.
  • Assist the team in the development of new AWS hosted infrastructure.
  • Document processes and operating procedures.
  • Investigate customer raised defects.
  • Participate in peer code reviews and ensure design and code adhere to Sophos standards.
  • Participate in security reviews of features to ensure that products comply with Sophos’ security requirements and industry best practice.
  • Ensure that third party libraries are kept up-to-date and comply with security requirements.
  • Contribute to daily stand-ups, kick-offs, collaborative estimation and retrospective meetings.



Skills & Experience


  • Degree in Computer Science or other numerate discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience deploying, monitoring and troubleshooting cloud scale distributed systems.
  • Recent experience developing systems on AWS infrastructure.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies.
  • Technical problem solving and strong debugging skills.
  • Good communicator, with a ‘can do’ attitude who can work effectively across multiple business and technical teams.
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly and apply them to the role.



  • Experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases, ideally MongoDB, Dynamo or Elasticsearch.
  • Experience with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with Docker.
