Job Purpose
CIS is responsible for supporting our Product teams to deliver the infrastructure required to provide public-facing infrastructure and Cloud services to both internal and external customers. This includes architecting, designing and building new infrastructure and applications, as well as acting in a level 4 support capacity for our operations function.
The job requires deep skills in AWS, cloud-native applications and infrastructure, python development, and systems administration skills. Your extensive skills and experience will be put to good use in continually modernizing, scaling and hardening an infrastructure that keeps pace with a fast-moving industry.
Main Duties
- Work with the architecture function to design and build innovative solutions to problems raised by the product teams
- Identify areas of opportunity and propose improvements to internal and/or production infrastructure
- Identify operational processes suitable for automation and drive the implementation of solutions
- Carry personal responsibility for high quality changes to a live IT infrastructure
- Create estimates and work plans then deliver according to those plans in an agile manner
- Occasionally participate during, or outside of, working hours in incident resolution as a subject matter expert
- Occasionally carry out changes outside of normal working hours
- Lead other engineers in project related activity
- Mentoring junior members of staff
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Deep experience and knowledge of building secure, cloud-native applications on AWS, using AWS managed services
- Linux systems administration
- Deep knowledge of underlying protocols and infrastructures, including DNS, PKI, CDNs, HTTP, Networks
- Infrastructure as Code expertise (CloudFormation/Terraform)
- Secure Python development in a range of environments, including serverless environments
- Knowledge and appropriate usage of microservices-based architectures, including Kubernetes
- Demonstrable experience of delivering modern DevOps practices for the full development lifecycle
- Effective communication in a variety of settings: one on one, small and large groups, or among diverse styles and position levels up to CxO
- A track record of successfully delivering projects as a technical lead in high performing teams
- Adapts approach and demeanour to match the demands of the situation
- Customer advisory on best practices for operational related activity
- Experience of working as part of a global organization with engineering teams across multiple time-zones and cultures
- A passion for keeping pace with industry trends, technologies, and their appropriate implementation
- Independent self-directed working
