Job Purpose

This role provides the opportunity to deliver high quality software for computer security by providing QA expertise for an Agile development team and is ideal for a QA Engineer looking to progress into a Senior QA Engineer role.

The team develops cloud management for Sophos’ endpoint security products, all implemented in our Sophos Central platform.  We are primarily focused on delivery of new features, with an exciting roadmap of projects ahead of us. Recent highlights for the team have been releasing additional features for Sophos’ Intercept X Nextgen product, namely Live Response which enhances remote threat detection and remediation across endpoint estates.

We follow an Agile methodology with high quality as the key release criteria. This role will help guide testing, best practices and enforce quality within the team, and will deliver and drive project-based test approaches and plans.


Main Duties

  • Work with the QA Manager and team to create and agree test strategy, plans and coverage from project kick-off
  • Define, create and execute test cases alongside other engineers
  • Be involved in project planning and drive for high-value and high-quality solutions which meet business needs
    • Work with the team to analyse and understand project requirements
    • Contribute to defining success criteria for new functionality
    • Participate in defining the required automation
  • Actively test new functionality to ensure a correct and high-quality product in early development phase, either manually or through automation
  • Contribute to daily stand-ups, kick-offs, collaborative estimation and retrospective meetings
  • Ensure QA ‘best practices’ are followed, whilst working with the QA Manager and team to identify areas for quality improvements
  • Work with the QA Manager to manage the test cycle of the project ensuring products release on time and to the agreed quality
  • Reporting of the quality approach, test progress and results to the QA Manager
  • Research and implement improvements to tools and processes, to improve efficiency and effectiveness of testing and test management
  • Work with QA managers to implement department wide initiatives and contribute towards future improvements


Skills & Experience


  • Analytical with an eye for detail, a natural problem solver with a continuous improvement ethos
  • Effective and interpersonal communication style, ‘can do’ attitude and a team player
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly and apply them to the role
  • Self-organizing and driving to deliver quality in line with project objective
  • Hands on experience in quality testing web-based and cloud-hosted applications
  • Recent experience in setting up test environments including installing and configuring software on Windows, Mac and Linux
  • Experience in creating, updating and delivering against test plans, including identifying risks and test scenarios for new functionality
  • Experience in reproducing issues and analysing logs to better define defects
  • Knowledge of varied software test techniques
  • Experience with agile development methodologies
  • ISTQB Foundation Level or degree in Computer Science or other numerate discipline



  • Experience of using JIRA, TestRail
  • Experience of using Groovy, Java or other high-level scripting languages
  • Technical problem solving
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements for improved efficiency and quality
  • Defect management and triaging
  • Experience in AWS
