Job Purpose

 

To research, test, benchmark, document, and analyse relevant security products, and deliver tailored competitive information to internal and external customers globally.

 

Main Duties

 

  • Research competitor products and businesses to identify competitive advantages and disadvantages, documenting and recoding findings
  • Provide cover and respond to requests for competitive analysis and information via the competitive hotline from Sophos Sales and partners, in line with defined service levels
  • Create and maintain competitive sales tools, such as battlecards and other collateral on an on going basis
  • Liaise with product management and product marketing
  • Ensure documents are prepared in time for product and feature launches
  • Ensure competitive collateral reflect current marketing messages
  • Conduct and report on research into specific features, user experience, or other elements of competitors’ products
  • Maintain and build out test lab facilities to support the evaluation of third-party products
  • Help maintain inventory of current lab assets to enable fast and accurate testing on demand
  • Assist in procuring products for the lab as required
  • Conduct research with customers and partners to identify and understand requirements, experiences, and problems encountered with Sophos and competing solutions
  • Stay abreast of industry news, in particular competitor product and business events
  • Share relevant industry news with appropriate audiences through brief or in-depth news posts
  • When required, deliver demonstrations of competitor products to smaller internal audiences, highlighting features and differences to Sophos products
  • When required, set up and run tests to benchmark Sophos and third-party product performance and efficacy
  • Manage and track work tasks in task management system
  • Assist with various administrative tasks related to Competitive Intelligence

 

Special Conditions

 

  • Some international travel may be required

 

Organisational Responsibility

 

  • Reports to the Senior Market Research Manager
  • Works closely with Competitive Intelligence team, Product Managers, Marketing and Engineering
  • Supports Sales, Sales Engineering, and other groups as required

 

Experience

 

Essential:

 

  • Strong hands-on experience of setting up and administering one or more common operating systems (Windows, Linux, and/or OS X)
  • Setting up and maintaining a variety of hardware and software platforms
  • Experience of setting up and administrating endpoint security products
  • Setting up TCP/IP network
  • Writing reports of research findings
  • Experience of using common search tools

 

Desirable:

 

  • Experience of Information security industry
  • Experience of working in a sales or marketing role

 

Skills and Abilities

 

Essential:

 

  • Technically adept – Able to setup, upgrade and troubleshoot computer software and hardware
  • Able to deploy and use Sophos or competing security products
  • Understanding of relevant metrics and other technical proof points and how to generate and evaluate them in a lab environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of TCP/IP networking
  • Organised, eager and fast learning - Able to quickly grasp new and complex technologies or concepts
  • Strong written communication skills (clear message, spelling, grammar)
  • Able to communicate complex and often abstract concepts in a simplified way
  • Able to articulate product strengths and weaknesses in a clear and structured way
  • Programming or Scripting using common tools
  • Strong analytical skills – analysing large amounts of information and draw conclusions
  • Able to search for specific information in documents and on the Internet
  • Able to use Excel, Word and PowerPoint at a high level
