Finance Systems Support


We are currently seeking a Finance Systems Support professional to join an experienced team and assist with both supporting and maintaining the finance systems as well as day-to-day operational tasks and project activities, to help deliver the team objectives. 


The role will also be involved in planning, testing and implementing major changes and updates to key systems used by the Group. Working within a global function you will be in contact with overseas offices on a regular basis. The post holder will be encouraged to take on additional responsibilities as experience and departmental requirements allow. 


You are expected to provide finance systems support for various functions within the organisation and will be responsible for core elements of the month-end close process.


The ideal candidate will combine strong systems knowledge with the operational finance skills of an accounting professional, together with the team ethos and coordination of a project manager.


Main Duties:


  • Working as a systems finance subject matter expert supporting steady state processes and changes in financial systems and processes.
  • Month-end processes and systems support; including creation of monthly reports required by management, monitoring system behaviour and key posting processes and handling other global accounting transactions. 
  • Maintenance of finance systems including master data, query resolution, error reporting to an internal team of developers and in some cases an external support provider. 
  • Provide support to finance teams in all locations, including day to day query resolution and first level support for issues in the month end close process, including issue escalation, tracking and communications through to resolution and alignment with IT on post close follow up on root cause and related corrective actions.
  • Understanding and aiding all aspects of the use of the finance systems – including accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, fixed assets and general ledger accounting, CRM and BI reporting. 
  • Work on projects; help support improvements and controls within the finance systems, with alignment to upstream and downstream systems, as required by the business.
  • Taking an active role in specifying, testing and supporting new initiatives such as the development of new processes and internal controls or system enhancements. 
  • Tracking list of finance organization system priorities and supporting quarterly release cycle for resolution of repeat bugs or prioritized enhancements.
  • Ensures that systems are modified appropriately to meet new requirements including compliance requirements. Adheres to best practise for financial systems use and ensures this is widely practised throughout the organisation.
  • Assist regional financial controllers and commercial business partners with internal controls and queries.
  • Holiday restrictions may apply at month-ends, quarter ends and financial year end.
  • Flexibility is required to assist in periods of high-volume of work


Skills & Experience:




  • Working with SAP / ERP Systems: the candidate will possess detailed knowledge of SAP and a BI/DW environment
  • Practical experience of all aspects of the month end accounting processes and reconciliations
  • Financial Accounting skills and experience
  • Constant focus on improvement of processes and controls
  • Highly IT literate and an aptitude for problem solving
  • Working within a highly sales driven and fast moving, dynamic culture
  • Self-starter and proactive attitude with a strong track record
  • Newly or recently qualified with at least 3 years’ industry experience
  • Strong excel and data analysis skills
  • Degree or equivalent in a Finance / Business related subject

• Working within a software company, ideally a global organisation

• Worked as part of a global Finance organisation supporting global actions and initiatives

• Experience of handling multiple work streams and prioritising accordingly

• Experience of Finance Transformation Projects and Change Management

• Experience of working with IT department and technical developers

• Understanding of the accounting practices and standards under UK GAAP and IFRS

• Experience of documenting business requirements to support business decisions

• Mathematics to A-Level or equivalent

• Experience of system implementations or major enhancements

• Strong attention to detail and ability to ‘work the problem’ through to resolution

• Able to build good working relationships within and outside of the department
