Job Purpose

Reporting to the FP&A Manager, the key objective of the position is to assist in the provision of strategic financial support to the Products & CTO Groups.  The individual will assist in the preparation of all forward-looking financial projections including the Long-Term Plan, Annual Operating Plan and quarterly/monthly Forecasts.  The individual will also have a detailed understanding of actual results and variances to previously prepared projections and will present this analysis to senior stakeholders in the Business Functions on a regular basis. This role involves partnering on a day-to-day basis with Senior Management Team members and their reports, based mainly in the US and the UK, as well as the Finance departments in the UK and around the world.

 

Main Duties

 

Specific responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Modernisation of FP&A systems and processes
    Sophos FP&A is currently implementing a new Planning tool (Anaplan) and transitioning to using Power BI as the main tool to deliver analysis.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to get involved in:
    • Developing scenario-based models within Anaplan
    • Modernising current business reporting in Power BI to facilitate self-service reporting
    • Assist with the conversion of legacy Microsoft Excel reporting into dashboard reporting in Power BI
  • Business Partnering
    • Assist in providing consistent, high-quality financial business partnering support to the Product Functions and the CTO Group
    • Owning approval flow for new hires in Products and CTO teams, confirming alignment with budgets and tracking open headcount position
    • Facilitating accurate reporting of spend by working with the Functions to ensure Purchase Orders are used correctly and by working with Financial Control to ensure that accruals and prepayments are appropriately booked
  • Budgeting and Forecasting
    • Helping to produce full year Annual Operating Budget, quarterly reforecasts, and monthly top-down forecast for the Products and CTO Groups, covering Operating and Capital Expenditure planning as well as Billings and Revenue
    • Working with the Financial Reporting teams to understand and communicate the Group’s actual financial results and variances to Plan and Forecast
    • Tracking and forecasting headcount position and related costs
    • Continuous assessment of forecasting accuracy
    • Participate in forecasting, scenario modelling and investment case modelling as required
    • Assisting in long-term planning and modelling as required
       
  • Reporting
    • Assisting in preparation of high-quality review materials for discussion at meetings with the SVP Finance / Senior Management Team / CFO /CEO
    • Providing concise and actionable analysis around Financial results to functions supported, highlighting relevant risks and opportunities
    • Assisting in ad hoc reporting activities as required

 

Skills and Experience

For this position we are seeking an individual with excellent communication, and inter-personal skills. You will have experience of successful business partnering, ideally in the software/IT industry.

 

You will have a professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) and will have experience working in FP&A/Commercial Finance. 

 

Required

  • Experience of Financial Planning and Forecasting
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to “see the big picture” and present complex data in a clear and organized manner
  • Ability to handle conflicting priorities and tight deadlines
  • Working hour flexibility to support a Global function (Home working flexibility)
  • Robust Microsoft Excel skills and modelling ability

 

Desirable

  • Experience of business partnering with CTO/Technical departments
  • Experience of working for a publicly-listed or private-equity owned companies
  • SAP user experience
  • Anaplan user experience
  • Power BI user experience
