Job Purpose


The Cloud Infrastructure Services (CIS) team is dedicated to ensuring that the technologies which underpin Sophos products are at the leading edge; resilient; and highly available to internal and external customers globally. We are a highly technical team responsible for delivering infrastructure that supports detection and analysis of malicious security threats and release of protection to 100m+ endpoints. We also provide public facing systems and cloud services to Sophos customers, relying on Cloud Technology like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Azure as well as our own data centers utilizing VMware.

Data Centre Engineers are responsible for the operation, maintenance and uptime of critical data centre facilities. The individual will work with facilities/M&E staff along with Operations staff to ensure that the facility is well run. The role includes responsibility for capacity planning, availability management, risk management, security, structured cabling and servers. This role will include the opportunity to work with cloud platforms going forward, and is considered a good opportunity for the successful candidate to expand their existing knowledge of DC operations to include future technologies.


Main Duties


  • Take ownership of critical data centre facilities with engagement from facilities through to the server estate
  • Manage security and access processes for 3rd party data centres
  • Provide oversight around availability, capacity, risk & security of the primary data centre
  • Have ownership of the automated build infrastructure
  • Manage the data centre ensuring the highest standards of neatness and future manageability
  • Perform reactive and proactive maintenance
  • Participate in a 24/7 rota which may include scheduled work outside of core hours
  • Other duties and responsibilities as directed


Skills and Experience




  • Data centre power, cooling, racking, patching 
  • Understanding of server/hardware technology incl. Dell iDrac, DNS, Basic Networking 
  • Basic familiarity with Windows, Linux, ESXi 
  • Ability to work overtime / weekends (infrequent) 
  • Team and project working 
  • Technical problem solving 
  • Effective communication with various stakeholders 
  • Risks Assessment and Mitigation 
  • Ability to manage own workloads 




  • Motivating others 
  • Microsoft, Cisco, Linux certifications 
  • Foreman, Puppet or Ansible 
  • Investigating and Researching 
  • Develop long term DC strategy 
  • DC Cooling technology experience 
  • DCIM experience
